GET INVOLVED

There are so many ways to get involved with Colorado Safe Haven for Newborns.

Fundraising Events

Our Annual Gala Event Raises Money to Save Lives

Support the Colorado Safe Haven for Newborns nonprofit, dedicated to safeguarding vulnerable newborns, mothers in crisis, and our community from the heartbreaking reality of infant mortality. Colorado’s Safe Haven Law provides a crucial option, allowing parents to leave an infant up to 72 hours old at a designated safe location without fear of prosecution.

The good news is that TOGETHER, we can make a difference. Since the law’s inception, Colorado has witnessed the safe surrender of 87 babies. The funds we raise yearly are vital in spreading awareness about the Safe Haven law.

Our Annual Gala on September 21, 2024, was a huge success!  If you missed it,  stay in the know and get on our email list to join us in 2025!!

Colorado Safe Haven Billboard Campaign

In the past year alone, we’ve strategically placed billboards in critical areas such as Colorado Springs, Denver, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Greeley. While we may not always know the full impact of our awareness efforts, we do know that since placing billboards, there have been two Safe Haven baby surrenders in the Fort Collins area. Your contribution can help us continue these impactful initiatives and reach even more needy individuals. Let’s make a lasting difference and protect the most vulnerable among us.

Colorado Safe Haven Signs Innitiative

We provide Colorado Safe Haven signs to Fire Stations and Hospitals participating in the Safe Haven program.  We encourage them to mount the sign onto their building so mothers and passersby can be made aware.  Their sign could save a life.

We offer this 24″ x 30″ sign and kindly request a donation to cover the $75 per sign, but if the department can not contribute, we will supply the sign at no cost.  That’s where our wonderful contributors come into the picture. Your donation can support a sign or several!

Baby Box Initiative:
These secure and technologically advanced boxes, strategically placed in the exterior walls of fire stations, present a tangible and safe alternative for birth parents. It’s important to note that, as of now, Baby Boxes have not yet been approved in Colorado. While our primary objective continues to be face-to-face surrendering, the Baby Boxes are envisioned as an anonymous and secure backup, ensuring the safety of newborns. We are actively working to change the verbiage of our state law to permit the inclusion of Baby Boxes, and your continued support is crucial in making this initiative a reality.  *Each box is $16,000 initially, with a delivery/install cost of $5,000-$7,000 and an annual maintenance fee of $1000 (annual recertification & annual alarm fee).

We extend a warm invitation for you to join us; physical proximity is not a requirement for volunteering. Regardless of where you reside, whether nearby or far away, all you need is the desire to effect positive change.

Adoption and Fostering

How Can I Adopt or Foster A Safe Haven Baby?

Colorado Safe Haven for Newborns does not place a newborn for adoption or work with specific adoption agencies.

However, if you are interested in fostering or adopting a Safe Haven baby, this is coordinated through the state of Colorado under the Department of Human Services. The department recommends attending an informational session about becoming a foster-to-adopt parent. Here is the link for upcoming info sessions.

Adoption Info Session

This step will guide you in making an informed decision about pursuing certification. While exclusive preference for Safe Haven babies might not be possible, you can specify preferences such as age.
